Only God Can Do This
By Bob Faulkner
The subject today is church unity. Most people point to John 17 when speaking of church unity, and so will I.
Point one. This prayer of Jesus is addressed to God, not the church. There is nothing in this chapter that any man should try to do. Jesus asked His Father for grace on the church of all ages, and we believe the Father granted that grace.
Point two. Specifically, the prayers for unity offered in John 17 were given to God. Unity of the type that Jesus prayed for MUST be created by God. When man attempts it, it starts looking like the old "Holy" Roman Empire, with its political correctness, its lack of toleration for dissension, its hierarchy, its made-to-order meetings, its uniforms, and its armies standing by to enforce the rules in the flesh. This is not God's unity.
Point three. There's a clue given to us in verse 21 of John 17 as to what kind of unity Jesus prayed for. Jesus said that He wants us one "so that the world may believe You sent Me."
Now I ask you, when Christendom was assembled under one roof, threatening the world with total control, did the people of this world want to come to Jesus and examine His claims? Was repentance on their mind because the "Church" was "one"? I think not! In fact, the world hurried away from that to our shores and others' so as to be able to seek God on their own! And seek Him they did. That sort of seeking has been going on ever since.
Here is Christian unity: a Christian prisoner of the Nazis lives her life to such an extent that a brutal guard working for those same Nazis wants to come to Christ, and is even forgiven totally by that same prisoner who bore his abuses, and those two are united in Jesus' love, I say the world looks at that unity, and says "I want this Christ." (The true story of Corrie Ten Boom)
Men, get your hands off of John 17. Let God do the work of saving and thus unifying His people in His Spirit, and using THAT kind of unity to reach this world.
http://chosunhouse.com is a website I put together a few months back to get the word out to believers that they need to pray for North Korea. Just about every day I'm writing a blog featuring some news, a book, or a story of North Korea. There's a live news feed on the site, lists of resources, picture essays, and ways to respond to the overwhelming need in North Korea. Let's love Chosun together!
And who am I? A man found of God over 50 years ago, called to the ministry, serving the Lord as needed in my world. Married, member of a local church in the Chicago area, with full time work in public education. Who are you? Would love to fellowship with believers who respond on my site.

Spiritual Momentum I love the old adage that for every small step you take toward God, God takes a giant step toward you. I love it because although it might perpetuate our mythologized and humanized God in the wrong hands, it offers a useful spiritual principle in the right hands. You see, with every decision you make, no matter how small, you are generating spiritual momentum. With every decision you make, no matter how small, you are focusing the unlimited creative potential of the universe in support of a certain direction for your life. And the unlimited creative potential of the universe is immune to earthly law. So while from an earthly perspective, every small step you take toward your good brings you one small step clos .. Rhema Therapy The word Rhema comes from the ancient Greek word meaning “living, breathing word”.
It is distinguished from the written Word of God which is logos. The spoken Word of God is considered Rhema. Jesus said, “The Words I speak to you are spirit and are life” (John 6:63) Most of you are probably asking yourself, "What on earth is Rhema Therapy?" Basically, it is a therapy based on words (no kidding). You see, Words produce thoughts, and thoughts affect our actions and emotions, even our health. Words are more powerful than you might imagine. Words can make us laugh, or words make us cry. There are even words that can bring on aggression. Have you ever heard the term, "those are fighting words"? Yes, word .. [Click to continue]
Christian Sex Toys? There has been some confusion over whether Christian sex toys are healthy and sound for the Christian intimate relationship. They in fact can be a healthy addition to a Christian relationship, within reason. Here are some very important guidelines for Christian sex toy inclusion: 1. Christian sex toy safety. As always safety should be a number one concern regarding Christian sex toys. The purpose is to add or compliment pleasure, not to inflict any unnecessary harm. This of course wouldn't be the intention with the Christian couple, but it's important to be sure a Christian sex toy does not pose any noticeable accidental harm or danger to yourself or your Christian partner. 2. Christian sex toys to avoid. Th .. [Click to continue]
Is There More than One Gospel in the Bible? Many Bible students assume that the word "gospel" refers to the same message each time it is used throughout the Bible. If that is so, why would the Bible use so many different titles for the same message? For instance: Gospel of the Kingdom (Matt 4:23 KJV) Gospel of the Grace of God (Eph 2:8-9 KJV) Everlasting Gospel (Rev. 14:6 KJV) The word "gospel" simply means "good news." While all of God's good news centers in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, not all of the gospel revelations contain the same information about him. Let's examine the first two-the gospel of the kingdom and the gospel of the grace of God-to see if they are the same message. THE GOSPEL OF .. [Click to continue]
Experiencing Joy In Your Life How often do you hear people say, "Erica is so full of joy"? It's more like, "Erica seems so happy". That's because happiness and joy are two different things, and more often we see people temporarily happy, rather than consistently filled with joy. Happiness is more like a mood, meaning it can change at any given moment. It is our fleshly nature that we are happy when things are going our way and if they are not, then our flesh will surely show it. It’s temporary. Joy is much more than just a feeling. It is possessing great delight and gladness. I want internal joy, not external happiness. How about you? The Bible is always making mention of being full of joy and being filled with joy. Even, having abundance of .. [Click to continue]
