Eucalyptus is a powerful antiseptic agent.

Its powerful germicidal properties are known to effectively kill staphylococcus bacteria.

Eucalyptus been used to treat tuberculosis and other infectious diseases.

Research scientists Dr Lindsey Gaunt and Sabrina Higgins from the University of Southampton have found that essential oils, such as eucalyptus, orange and thyme can destroy bacteria, such as Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (staph) on surfaces.

The findings that essential oils could be effectively destroy bacteria were unveiled at the sixth joint symposium of the International Electrostatics Society of Japan and the Electrostatics Society of America conference in Tokyo (Nov 7-10, 2004).

The scientists used essential oils of orange, eucalyptus, thyme and tea tree which, when dispersed into the air, had a powerful bactericidal effect.

They said that the use of these essential oils could help people to easily and conveniently kill bacteria lurking in their homes.

The researchers are planning further studies to see if essential oil are effective against the super bug MRSA among other strains of bacteria.

Eucalyptus is also known to have a lowering effect on blood sugar, along with other essential oils - coriander, fennel, geranium and juniper.

Eucalyptus is found in many topical preparations to treat inflammatory conditions like Fibromyalgia, neuralgia, muscle cramps and joint pain.

It promotes healing of wounds, blend with Helichrysum to enhance this effect.

Eucalyptus is especially good for treating cold sores, skin ulcers, shingles and insect bites.

An excellent underarm antiperspirant. Use Eucalyptus to control body odor.

Eucalyptus is also highly regarded as an insect repellent.

Use as a topical treatment on your pets for controlling flea and tick infestations.
