Chew on This - Eric Schlosser - Book Review
This book is based on the bestseller “Fast Food Nation”. Even though the subtitle is “Everything you don’t want to know about Fast Food” I strongly suggest you read this book. I haven’t quite finished the book yet but this book makes an interesting read no matter if you regularly eat at McDonald’s or Burger King or not. One chapter is about what influence the “American Way of Life” has on Alaska since it became part of the USA in 1959. Before it was part of the US Alaskan children had virtually no problems with their teeth, but since Coca Cola distributes their soft drinks it has become very common. The book also explains how many American schools depend on soft drink companies to pay for uniforms and other expenses. In other words schools are encouraged to turn kids into junk food junkies instead of teaching them about nutrition they are co-operating with the big corporations.
